Why Iceland?

After eight months of dating and 10 months of wedding preparation, Ed and I (Michelle) got married on May 14, 2011.

However, for various reasons (that is to say, the loss of a job and the death of a parent), we couldn't go on our honeymoon until the summer of 2013. We can't quite remember which one of us came up with the idea of going to Iceland, but it was probably along the lines of someone saying, "Haha, wouldn't it be funny if we were to go to Iceland? Because who in their right minds go to Iceland on a honeymoon?"

Well, lots of people, of course, but we didn't know any of those people. The people we knew who went on honeymoons went to places like France and Aruba and Cancun. Places where it tended to be warm in the summer.

Nuts to that. We wanted to go someplace where coats and gloves were needed in mid-June. We are hardy stock! Or stupid. We'll let you know which at some point in the future.

Also, we liked confusing people who kept saying things like, "Why don't you go to Rome or Paris instead? There's not so much nature and outdoors there." Or "Because you don't think that anyone goes to Iceland on their honeymoon isn't really a good enough reason for you to go to Iceland on your honeymoon." We scoffed. (And we don't see why not.) So after much fussing with dates and the buying of guide books, we made plans to fly to Reykjavik in mid-June until the end of the first week of July 2013.

This blog started as a way for us to remember the trip we're about to take to Iceland for our honeymoon, and will include other travels that we take.
